On July 15-17 we were excited to host Universal Cheerleaders Association, UCA, Cheer camp in Deerfield. This is the 4th year that we have hosted and we are looking forward to more years of hosting in the future. This year we had 7 schools come together for this event. Eisenhower Middle School from Liberal, Satanta, Sublette, Lakin, Holcomb, and Golden Plains all joined Deerfield. With these 7 teams we had a total of 80 cheerleaders, 11 coaches, and 3 staff members from UCA. Throughout camp a large amount of material was covered including dance, cheers and chants, as well as stunting. There was also an emphasis on team building and safety. Coaches also received training together and had time to connect and share knowledge with each other. All of this combined together for a super valuable, yet extremely fun experience for everyone.
Throughout camp teams also perform the material that they learned and were evaluated. With these evaluations they receive ribbons as well as feedback on the parts that were performed awesomely and the parts where they could improve. On the final day all these performances and evaluations come together with the awards. This year I am proud to say that your Spartan Cheerleaders brought home the 1st place trophy for best pyramid. They also received the plaque for the school that most represented their traditions the most. There are only 2 plaques given the other one is for Leadership. To receive one of these two plaques is a high honor. I am so proud of the work that Spartan Cheer put in this weekend. They worked through some challenges and came out on the other side better for it.
