Deerfield, KS, 11-6-24 – USD 216 Celebrates Teacher of the Year 2026: Honoring Mrs. Veronica Aparicio

USD 216 is proud to announce its Teacher of the Year for 2026, a prestigious honor awarded to an educator who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, commitment, and innovation in the field of education. This year, Mrs. Veronica Aparicio has been recognized for her outstanding contributions and her unwavering passion for student success.

Each year, USD 216 seeks to honor an educator who exemplifies the spirit of excellence and inspires both students and colleagues. Mrs. Veronica Aparicio has consistently embodied this spirit throughout her career at Deerfield Elementary School. With her innovative teaching methods and her remarkable ability to connect with students on a personal level, she has fostered a love for learning and helped countless students reach their full potential.

In her own words, Mrs. Aparicio shared her gratitude for this recognition:

"I am honored to be a part of Deerfield USD 216's incredible team of educators, and I am humbled and very grateful to have been nominated as Deerfield's Teacher of the Year for the 2025-2026 school year. I am blessed to do what I love each and every day and have the opportunity to make a difference in our children's future. Those that know me know a quote I frequently use: 'I love what I do, where I am, and who I am,' meaning I love making a difference, touching the lives of our students, and watching their faces light up at Deerfield Elementary. I love being an academic educator. I would like to thank all who have, in one way or another, modeled what an amazing educator can be, and everyone at Deerfield USD 216 for this prestigious nomination."

Beyond her classroom responsibilities, Mrs. Aparicio has played an integral role in the school community. She leads the STEAMM program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math, and Maker), which has become a favorite among students. Under her guidance, children have transformed everyday objects into creative projects, from cranes and roller coasters to musical instruments and stop-motion animation sets. Her influence has encouraged students to think independently, imagine boldly, and collaborate freely.

As a true advocate for education, Mrs. Aparicio is known for her willingness to go above and beyond, whether volunteering at school events, supporting fellow staff members, or contributing her expertise to new initiatives. Her colleagues praise her for her energy, passion, and innovative approach, which have made her an invaluable asset to USD 216 and the Deerfield community.

With this recognition, Mrs. Aparicio will advance to the regional competition in Salina in April. If selected as one of the two Region 1 Teacher of the Year winners, she will move on to the finals in Wichita in September 2026. Regardless of the outcome, Mrs. Aparicio will spend the next year traveling around Kansas, collaborating with and learning from other outstanding educators, and making a positive impact statewide.
