In 2020, Deerfield USD 216 found itself facing a dilemma. The existing infrastructure was aging, and keeping up with the outdated facilities seemed like a never-ending cycle. It was time for a change, and the district believed that a bond might be the answer.

The process of proposing a bond began, with the district gathering community input, conducting studies, and presenting plans to the public. The supporters of the bond highlighted the dire need to provide modern and safe learning spaces for the students.

As the months went by, excitement grew within the Deerfield community. The bond proposal gained momentum and started to be seen as a promising solution. Finally, in February of 2023, the vote was held and was successful

The work then began by finalizing plans and setting schedules. In the Summer of 2023 small parts of the bond construction started.

January 2024 brought a fresh start as construction crews broke ground at the new storm shelter site. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by school officials, and staff members. Excitement filled the air as shovels dug into the earth, symbolizing the beginning of a transformation.
