Veterans Day Assembly

On November 9th, 2023. We had our annual Veterans Day Assembly. We invited all of our community to join us in this fantastic celebration that our MS STUCO puts together every year. During this time, we like to honor anyone in our community or a staff member who is a Veteran.

The MS STUCO started the assembly by singing the National Anthem. It was sung by STUCO member Brynn Harmon. The Pledge of Allegiance was said after the National Anthem. Our STUCO Representatives explained to everyone what a veteran is and how many types of veterans there are. We have regular Veterans, Combat veterans, and War Veterans.

We also interviewed many Veterans from our community who explained their experience while they served our country. Our first interviewer is Larry Brownlee. Larry is a Vietnam Veteran and a DHS alumni. Student Council member Kenzie Graham interviewed him.

After the first interview, we had a fantastic performance by the Kindergarten and First Grade kids. They performed ā€œMarch of the Wee Americansā€ By Teresa Jennings.

Our 2nd Veteran Interview was with Colby Katz. Mr. Katz is currently the school nurse for USD 216. He is also a DHS Alumni. Student Council Member Brynn Harmon interviewed Mr. Katz.

Our 2nd Music performance was by the 1st-3rd Grade classes. They sang ā€œI Love My Countyā€ By Teresa Jennings

The following Veteran interview was with Kylie Carlisle. Officer Carlisle is the SRO for USD 215 and USD 216. Officer Carlisle was in the US Army, and he is a Combat Veteran. Student Council Member Lainey Griego interviewed him.

The 3rd performance was by the 2nd and 3rd grade students. They sang ā€œVeterans Marchā€ By Teresa Jennings.
